Week 14
Alright, I never thought that it would be kinda tough to keep up this blog every week since starting school. The Leader Board will be updated in a bit (by the end of this week's games at the very latest) and I'll be back with some late-night analysis in a day or two.
For the moment - let's look at the games this week:
Game 1: Edmonton at Winnipeg, Friday 8pm ET. Edmonton is doing pretty well, but so is Winnipeg. This is the "new" Bomber's first real test. If they can beat Edmonton tonight, they might actually make up for their pathetic 0-4 start. The Eskimos are going to look to rebound after their horrible loss to Montreal last week, but the Bombers have home-field advantage - which will mean a lot in this game. Let's hope they can do the Riders a favour and keep the Esks at bay. Bombers win (I hope!).
Game 2: Calgary at Toronto, Saturday 7pm ET. There isn't much to say about this game. While I would love to see Toronto win and hold back the Stamps from climbing the standings in the West, I cannot see them pulling out a win after their brutal game against what looked-like an unstoppable Calgary offense. Calgary wins (aaarg!).
Game 3: Hamilton at BC, Saturday 10pm ET. If there is a time for the Tiger-Cats to step up and make a big win, it would be now. BC has two wins under their belt thanks to last-minute breakdowns by the Riders. However, if it were not for two last-minute breakdowns in their games against the Riders, they might be going back to BC Place with two losses. The Lions defense is great, but there is always potential in an unpredictable Ti-Cat defense. With Kenton Keith playing his first game back in the CFL, they might have an edge. Unfortunately, my head and my heart both are picking a BC win (double aaarg!)
Game 4: Saskatchewan at Montreal, Sunday 1pm ET. The Riders have lost all of their games in pairs. Their first two came back-to-back against CGY and EDM, then two straight against BC. While the Als looked fantastic last week against Edmonton, I think that right now the Riders have more to lose than Montreal does. Saskatchewan has a lot of motivation to win this game - namely to stay atop the West and get back on a winning note. Montreal will be at home but that really isn't much of an advantage unless we're playing at the Oval. Also, there's a rumour that DJ Flick might be back for the game... and Center Jeremy O'Day will also be back in the lineup. Bowman and Fantuz should both also be around for our second game against Calgary in two weeks time. The future is looking bright for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and an upset against Montreal on the road will be exactly what the doctor perscribes! Saskatchewan wins (fo sho!).
Schultzie picks: Winnipeg, Calgary, BC, Montreal.
